Asphalt used for road surfacing, parking lots etc., is manufactured in a two-stage process where crushed stone and sometimes crushed, recycled glass is mixed with tar and
other binders.
First, the crushed material is dried and preheated in a continuous, rotary, horizontal furnace. It is then conveyed to a mixer where the binders are added, and the mix is further heated. The source of heat in both cases is a single, gas or oil-fired burner. When the temperature is correct, the mix is dumped into a truck and taken to the laying sight.
Thermocouples are used to measure and control the temperature in the dryer and mixer but are relative insensitive to rapid temperature changes and require frequent replacement. IR Thermometers are more responsive to process temperature changes, and do not need to be in contact with the abrasive material.
The PSC-52LT offers high resolution laser-sighted, fixed focus optics with small spot sizes. Optical and electronics parts are enclosed in a rugged stainless steel housing for use in harsh environments. Ideal for low temperature general purpose applications with dull surface materials. Temperature range from 0 to 1000°C
Self-contained, two-wire and loop-powered digital IR thermometer packed with powerful features and functionality. Dual lasers for aiming. Temperature ranges from -30°C to 1600°C with a variety of wavelengths. Provides a fast response time of 10ms.
The digital PSC-47LT pyrometers are designed for low-reflective surfaces and are suitable for non-contact temperature measurements from –40 to 1000°C. Examples include: plastics, rubber, glass, conveyed materials, and gypsum board. All sensor parameters are adjustable via Ethernet Modbus TCP, PC, or specialized web link. PSC-47LTs in the 0 to 1000°C temperature range comes with an integrated LED aiming light.
Two piece and 1-color digital model PSC-SSS-Laser Series offers high resolution optics, dual lasers for aiming, fast response speed, on board back lit temperature display, and a large choice of wavelengths for a variety of industrial, medical, and scientific applications. Offered in temperature ranges from -40 to 2200°C
The PSC-42 Series of simple, 1-color, 2-wire loop powered sensors offer on-board emissivity adjustment, multiple wavelength options and wide temperature ranges. Ideal for industrial and OEM machine building applications with temperature ranges from -40°C to 2500°C. When used with our rugged stainless steel cooling jacket, the series can endure ambient temperatures up to 250°C.
