Asphalt Laying Machine and Thermal Imaging is a method of using infrared radiation to gather information about objects to create thermal images of them, even in low visibility environments. An IR camera measures thousands of temperature points and provides a temperature profile over a large scene. This allows the operators to locate any extremely low or high temperature areas which can cause future issues with the asphalt road.
The temperature at which the asphalt is laid down is critical to the life of the road surface, too low a temperature results in premature disintegration. If the temperature is too high, the material will sag and spread. This is particularly critical with high-speed, automatic laying machines. Large highway construction and resurfacing contracts are carried out under the supervision of a representative from the highway authority, who monitors the laying temperature and the load in the trucks when they arrive, using a handheld IR thermometer. If the temperature of the load is too low, it is rejected and turned back to the supplier.
The high precision infrared camera, Model PSC-X410LT, is the key component as it scans the asphalt pavement behind the screed,viewing the entire area. An outdoor enclosure for the infrared camera can also accommodate a customer supplied, high precision GPS receiver. It then can record the exact position of the temperature data. In addition to the position, the external influencing parameters are also documented. A pyrometer mounted in front of the under-carriage measures the base temperature before paving.
For lower cost solutions, select a one-color single point pyrometer with protective outdoor jacket with air purge and mounting accessories.
The PSC-X80LT is an industrial imager with 80x 80 pixels. Its autonomous operation (without continuous use of PC) with automatic hot spot finder and direct analog output make it ideal for a multitude of manufacturing process applications. The PSC-X410LT is a higher resolution industrial thermal imaging camera with 384 x 240 pixels and 80 Hz frame rate perfect for fast thermal processes. Both cameras share a temperature ranges within -20°C to 900°C (- 4°F to 1652°F) and can be switched from thermal imaging mode to line scanning mode.

PSC-IR-USB series are loop-powered two-wire sensors with fixed focus optics, 4-20mA output and USB to PC cable connection.
